Ingredients

Dough:
  • 3 tubes 8 ounces each refrigerated crescent roll sheets (Alternatively, use perforated crescent dough and pinch seams to seal)
Filling:
  • ½ cup 1 stick / 113 g unsalted butter, softened (Use regular butter, not margarine)
  • 1 tablespoon chives finely chopped (Fresh chives work best)
  • 1 tablespoon garlic minced (Fresh garlic recommended)
  • 3 cups 339 g mild cheddar cheese, shredded, divided (Reserve 1 cup for topping)
Garlic Butter:
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted (For brushing the cruffins)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic minced (Use fresh garlic for flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon chives finely chopped (For extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt Adjust to taste

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 12-cup muffin tin with non-stick spray or butter and set aside.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each crescent roll dough sheet into a 12x16-inch rectangle.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, chives, and garlic.
  5. Spread about ⅓ of the butter mixture evenly over one sheet of dough.
  6. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the butter mixture.
  7. Starting at the long end of the dough, roll it up tightly into a log.
  8. Cut the rolled log in half, then cut each half in half lengthwise, resulting in four sections of dough.
  9. Repeat the process with the remaining dough sheets, yielding 12 dough sections.
  10. Take each section of dough, ensuring the layered side faces out, and roll it tightly into a cinnamon roll shape, tucking the ends under.
  11. Place each cruffin into the prepared muffin tin.
  12. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cruffins are golden brown and crisp.
  13. While the cruffins are baking, prepare the garlic butter. In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, garlic, chives, and salt.
  14. Once the cruffins are baked, brush the garlic butter mixture over the warm cruffins.
